Chronology of Noteworthy Events

When the decision to construct Tweedsmuir Camp was taken, Lord Tweedsmuir, 13th Governor General of Canada, had already signed a Declaration of War in late 1939 that formally brought Canada into WWII, Churchill had been prime minister for five months, Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force and its Allies through Dunkirk, had been successfully completed and the ferocity of the blitz was one month old.

By the time Tweedsmuir Camp officially closed in late 1957, Lord Tweedsmuir had been dead for 17 years, Churchill had received a knighthood and was to become one of Britain's most respected statesmen, Harold Macmillan had been prime minister for 9 months while Queen Elizabeth II had reigned for 4 years.
